The Court refused to rule on the merits of the case, saying he had to pay up first and, if he chose, could bring a followup suit without prejudice. In short, he lost. As you can imagine, he's pretty numb at the moment. Please offer him your best support and encouragement. In the long run, though, your cause may have won. Indeed, I devoted some space to your efforts in my book, The Virtual Community, and I cited your work in my testimony in the Philadelphia court challenge to the Communications Decency Act. Your work is a paragon of constructive and educational uses of the Internet. It is obvious from everything you do that you are a highly moral and ethical person -- the kind of citizen we need in this democracy. If there is anything I can do to help you in your fight to save your home, let me know. Dr. Kort, I have read of your legal troubles, and am dismayed to say the least. I've long been impressed by your work to make computers and the internet tools of value for youth and the community at large. I've mentioned MicroMuse in particular to people who have asked about positive uses for the internet. It is a shame that after so much work on behalf of others, the community of Bedford would turn on you in this way. I would be like to write a letter to any one of those responsible for allowing this miscarriage to proceed. It would be helpful if you or one of your supporters would post precise names and addresses. Would you please tell me which one of the Bedford Town Selectmen would be an appropriate recipient of such a letter, or would a letter addressed to, "The Bedford Town Selectmen" reach the right audience? Thanks and strength to you.
