Graveside services for Harold Berwin Kort, 84, Indianapolis, long involved in the public health field, will be at 2 p.m. April 24 in Indianapolis Hebrew Cemetery North.

He died April 20.

A teacher at Kirkwood Community College, Iowa City, Iowa, for 10 years, he was chairman of its Environmental and Public Health Program, retiring in 1978.

Previously, he was a public health engineer three years for the University of Iowa at Iowa City.

Before that, he worked 12 years for the Omaha Douglas County (Neb.) Health Department as chief milk sanitarian, where he developed the "Grade A" and bulk tank milk program. He was Omaha's first urban renewal administrator, was head of the housing authority and helped developed the city's housing code.

He was the 1976 winner of the Henry Albert Memorial Award for outstanding service in the public health field in Iowa.

Mr. Kort was a 1936 graduate of the University of Omaha and received his master's degree from Tulane University in 1958.

He was a member of Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, to which memorial contributions may be made.

Survivors: wife Estelle Cohen Kort; sons Stephan A., Barry W. Kort; sister Frances Ferer; two grandchildren.
